I Suck at this Game

I tell ya, this blogging thing just hasn't been happening the last few days. Haven't been home enough / haven't been bord enough, I guess.
Anyway...
Today I really sensed that I was in Oregon. Some days it's almost like this place I live could be anywhere else, but not today.
Today I saw a guy with shorts, a sweater, white athletic socks and birks.
I also saw a book entitled "Build your own Goddess".
And a bumper sticker that read: i love wood.
And a guy wearing one of those hippy beanies (though it was probably about 80 out), riding a bike, stopped by the house I nanny at and went through their "free pile" (left over from a yard sale) and picked up stuff. He was riding a bike. I still don't know where he put that stuff.
I feel very at home.

What is the Connection

...between running and blogging. I seem to only do one when I do the other.

I realized something this morning, as I ran through my neighborhood. I realized that words don't matter nearly so much as I ever thought. It so takes me back when people say things to me and I understand them, that I hesitate and probably come off either looking stupid or rude. So my instincts that have been bred in the last few months show themselves.
An old man was working in his yard and when he made some comment in reference to taking up the whole sidewalk y or something, I just smiled and produced some sort of affirmative noise and kept on my way. It was totally acceptable and worked out just fine. (I did have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "Gruss Gott")
This is the exact same thing we did every time we walked the Tallback or ran down by the river. We always just assumed that people were commenting on the weather, so we'd smile, nod and say "ja".
It doesn't matter what you so or really if it even has anything to do with the actual topic, just as long as you respond and smile.
Thankfully that's working here as well, or re-entry into suburban America would be entirely too difficult.

Tragically, this was as far in as we were allowed. Somehow I had failed to learn that they stop giving tours rather early in the day. Oh well. Posted by Hello

The Opera Garnier. (think Phantom of the Opera) Posted by Hello

Oh you know it. We, of course, had to go find this place. (in the day time, mind you. it was a little sketch even at that) Posted by Hello

The belly of the tower. hehe.  Posted by Hello

In the end we found it to be worth the wait. Posted by Hello

We waited *hours* I kid you not to see this tower in the dark. Someone should have warned us that it's not really actaully dark untill 10:45pm. Posted by Hello

Notre Dame is so beautiful. I couldn't bring myself to say "I've seen better"... untill we had climbed half way up and I was getting sick of hearing people talk about it- I sort of broke when we saw one of the big bells... Posted by Hello

Paris picture time!! Courtnay Smith and I stopped by Venice and Paris on our way home from Tauernhof. I thought ya'll might enjoy a few of these.  Posted by Hello

This may not be as excting for ya'll as it was for me, but we had an incredible thunderstorm last night. I definitly ran out and started squealing. Hehe. Yeah the sky was one of the most amazing parts - I was blown away. Best storm I think I've seen in P-town that didn't involve wind or ice. Any-who - this is from my backyard. Posted by Hello

Monday Morning Deductions

You know those cards and quotes and things that say something about pondering one's navel? Yeah I never really got that.
And not five minutes ago I discovered myself doing that very thing.
My first run back home only 15 minutes completed, I come back here to check my mail, and being as how it's freakin hot this morning (and I'm serious, all you southerners - it is 10am and 70 degrees in the shade) I'm sitting here with my clothes all half on trying to cool off. And I don't know if it's the fact that I haven't run in 2 weeks, or that the altitude change is too extreme or that I haven't eaten today, but that run was killer.
Anyway, so I'm sweating and dying and found myself sitting here, staring dumbly at my pulse in my belly, when I realized that I really was contemplating my belly button.
I really sound bored.

THE Topic of Conversation

At Capernwray, and then Tauernhof, the main topic of conversation, it seemed, was food.
Good food, bad food, not enough food, too much food, what we missed food, what we loved food, what was healthy food, what we call food.
Everyone loved to go into great detail about what they would eat as soon as they got home. Now home with all the lovely Mexican, Japanese, Healthy and anything home cooked that I could want at my disposal, I have no appetite. Is that not just out of control?
I think it probably had something to do with not eating too much in Paris, and staying up for 3 days (or however long that was) and being off schedule. I hadn't thought of how being so tired would mean that in order for my body to stay awake and get me through the day, the energy it takes to eat and digest food is too great to muster.
I look at the enchilada, the apple, the waffles and wish I could eat more than half. What I would have given for some of this for (for free!) over the last 9 months.
Hehe ... so ironic, isn't it.

Not Enough Brain Power

Bon soir!
Er...
Gutten tag!
No- crap... what time is it? What country am I in?
It's evidently 2:30 in the afternoon on the West coast of the States. That really doesn't mean a whole lot right now, I'm still exhausted and confused. So no creative or informative posting today. Until 4:30am (here) I hadn't actaully slept since monday night in Paris (which wasn't great at that). And getting home was a considerably bigger effort than orrigionally planned. My family (+ Rose) were wonderful to come get me at 12:30am from PDX. Aren't they such a good family? So good. Speaking of wonderful people- I had a letter from my boy when I got home, and another today when I woke up.
No doubt all my dear Bibelschoole/torchbearer secret society friends are just as tired as me so I'm not going to winge on about it.
So I'm back in the states. Back in P-town. Back in the clouds and rain.
And I'm wearing clean clothes. "Yessssss"

Red Light Green Light

Well, this will be my las post from Tauernhof, Austria, and probably Europe.
It's a strange feeling. It feels like the end of everything, but it's just the end of one really good thing, and the start of something else good. And it's not *quite* the end of Europe- Court and I still hav Venice and Paris for the next couple of days.
So I will be seeing many of you really soon. After I fit those last pieces of clothing into my bag (it WILL work) and after we find our busses, metros and hostel locations, an after I make that connection in Frankfurt. For some reason after all I've learned this year I really am having trouble trusting God for those last trivial yet stressful things.
God goes before us and behind us and so He'll take care of what ever mess I might make on leaving. And so this is gona be a rad next week... beginning tomorrow....

I Go to a Real School, too - I swear!

Because it's finals week at Tauernhof, too.
That's right.
They sprang a book review and a memory verse test on us last minute. Oh dear... that means half an hour answering questions like "what percentage of the book did you read?", or "what new thing did you learn from this book?" and "what 5 *different* points do you think the author was trying to make?" - that last one's a toughy because the author only had ONE POINT. That is not a lie.
Also, the schedule is just all whack. We have only optional sports day today (which means of course that no one's going to do anything unless they go run or play footy). Also, we had three lectures this morning instead of 2 + outreach prep. We hardly know what to do with ourselves.
And friday night is graduation.
I don't really know what it means to graduate from 8 weeks of life changing Bible reading, lectures, conversations with God, conversations with new friends and people we won't see again (or in "80 years tops" in the words of Rob Cox), and hiking (etc) in the Alps. Graduate? I hope I continue doing this (only in a different location) forever.
So maybe it's not a real school, after all. It's just better. Heck yes.
So now I'm off to do a little packing. Or to get chewed out for packing so soon, but my sanity is at stake here.
Or maybe I should study...
Nah.

No Way.

Have I mentioned that it's a small world? Yeah, I think I did. Well, guess what - it's gotten smaller.
-Janell, Kristin, Jenna, Megan and Austin all went to Lake Retreat as kids.
-Jenna Berkan (Capers friend from Seattle area) met Eli at the rally Alyssa and I met Tommy.
-Jordan and Christian know Katie Davis. From Capernwray (I had no idea she'd even gone. What the heck.)
-Chris Thomas's son (this makes him Janell and my "cousin" hehe) runs skate church.
-I was on Lita's blog and thought I'd look at the Imago link only to discover a link about theology classes with the contact name of Adam Rust. He was a TC at CREDO. Whaa? So insane.
And these are just MY connections. Everyone else here knows someone who knows someone...
It's actaully kind of creepy in a way.
How did I have to go Europe to figure this out? I think the Thomases basically are taking over the world. That's what's going. Them and Multnomah.

Friday, the Third of June, 5:53 pm.

Accomplishments:
-Sat through lectures without drawing.
-Finished 1, 2 and 3 John.
-Didn't have a heart attack or get carsick in the van with almost no brakes, Jordan driving and an hour of long mountain roads.
-Did NOT run.
-Figured out how to put a picture on my profile!!!

In the Words of Rob Whittaker

As I took dictation, I mean notes, last week I picked out a few of the funnier things that Rob said that I thought ya'll might enjoy.

Day 3:

“Some of you like how i'm dressed today, some of you dont. That's great, welcome to the flippin church”

“what in the name of anything you want to does this sentence mean?”

“it ain't working cuz it ain't God's bottom half of the equation”

Day 2:
“Dream on Alice”

"many evangelicals get their theological underpants in a twist over things that God couldnt give a flying rip about"

Day 1:
“Paul is saying 'grace be with ya'll'”

"If you had gone there 2000 years ago, you would need some extra flash cards for your digital camera cuz it was amazing"

“Well, the blue light's flashing now guys”.

“95 percent of christians dont know what I'm about to tell you”

“I dont care if these guys have phd's in hebrew and sandscript and have read every one of Calvin's books”

Some of these quotes will have only been funny if you have heard/seen Rob speak before. But hopefully some of the rest of you were able to enjoy as well.
I sure as heck laughed when I heard them.

Hah aha!!

In this last lecture I just got excited about going home.
Thanks Jesus!
